In the essay ’A vision for metamodern leadership’, Bjørn Uldall shares his vision for the leadership of the future. He also talks about his personal journey towards his current passion: exploring and spreading meaningful leadership in a complex world.
”What are the basic premises of the existing order, and of the way we construct ourselves, that we can challenge? What does the paradigm shift look like that can resolve our crises?”
The essay
In the essay ’A vision for metamodern leadership’, Bjørn Uldall shares his vision for the leadership of the future. He also talks about his personal journey towards his current passion: exploring and spreading meaningful leadership in a complex world.
Why?
We live in a world that calls for new solutions. Right now we find ourselves in a health crisis. But that is far from the only crisis - and perhaps not even the most important one. The forests are burning. The ice is melting. The tundra is thawing. The 6th mass extinction of species is under way. At the same time, more and more people experience stress, depression, anxiety, loneliness, meaninglessness and powerlessness. We need a paradigm shift that allows us to resolve our crises and thrive as whole human beings.
How?
The essay revolves around the metamodern paradigm, and how we can use it to create a more meaning-based form of leadership. Another concept that features prominently in the essay is ’vertical development’, a tool Bjørn has previously called ”the overlooked royal road to the leadership of the future”. Here Bjørn explores human processes of maturation, where he talks, among other things, about the self-transforming mind.
The essay is full of reflections rooted in history as well as in Bjørn’s personal experiences. It is an essay that addresses the great challenges we face, and shows how metamodern leadership can become part of the solution.
